Dr Alan Begg recently retired as Senior Vice President of Technology for SKF, the world’s leading bearing company. In his 8 years at SKF Headquarters in Sweden, he led the development of the Group’s new products and processes, notably of the SKF InsightTM system for wireless condition monitoring.

Having spent much of his early career with BP, he moved to become the Chief Technology Officer for major industrial engineering groups in the UK and USA, including Morgan Advanced Materials, T&N and Federal-Mogul.

Alan has broad experience working with Government. He was CEO of the Automotive Academy, a unique Government/Industry partnership to enhance skills in the UK automotive industry. He was a member of both the Technology Strategy Board and the Defence Scientific Advisory Council. He has a degree and PhD from Cambridge and is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
