Embark on an exciting journey into sustainability, innovation, and environmental consciousness – vital for shaping the bridges of the future. Your child will delve into hands-on activities, applying theory and unravelling the magic of bridge design. Experience the thrill of learning, complemented by a full schedule of evening activities! Open to Year 10 in England and Wales, S4 in Scotland, and Year 11 in Northern Ireland.

Students will enjoy three inspiring days at Kingston University, immersed in a vibrant STEM community. Evenings are packed with organised social activities, creating lasting connections, all supervised by The Smallpeice Trust's experienced team. Supported by the Rochester Bridge Trust, this course opens doors to expert insights and firsthand experience in sustainable bridge construction.

What

Leading academics from Kingston University and industry experts will bring the science of sustainable bridge construction to life using lectures, hands-on laboratory activities, and computer software workshops. Students will learn how to plan, analyse, and design bridge structures focusing on sustainable design, the use of sustainable materials, and new design and construction technologies. The use of computer design software will show students how different types of materials, load conditions, and geometrical characteristics can affect the design process of a bridge.

The course will improve students’ CVs with experiences to help their UCAS application stand out, as well as offering the chance to explore future career plans and consider their options beyond GCSEs.
