The University of Bath encourages students to continue to Explore Engineering 2024

The Smallpeice Trust is thrilled to announce its upcoming Explore Engineering 2024 course, set to take place from the 13th to the 15th of August 2024 at the prestigious University of Bath. Building on the success of last year, this exciting course aims to inspire and educate young minds about the endless possibilities within the ever-expanding field of modern engineering.

Unlocking the Future of Engineering

The Explore Engineering 2024 residential course has been meticulously designed for students aged 14 to 15, providing them with an introduction to various engineering disciplines. Over three days, students will engage in interactive workshops, team challenges, and inspiring talks all designed to spark a lifelong interest in engineering.

Staying on-site at the University’s green campus, students will have the chance to experience some of the fantastic facilities that the University of Bath can offer, such as the wind tunnels and testing equipment, formula student garage or biomechanical and structural testing labs.

An Engaging and Enriching Experience

The course features a diverse range of activities tailored to provide a comprehensive understanding of engineering.

  • Hands-On Projects: Students will work in teams to solve real-world engineering problems, fostering creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Specialised Workshops: Led by esteemed academics from Bath, will delve into various engineering fields, including mechanical, electrical, chemical and civil engineering.
  • Campus Exploration: Participants will tour the university's state-of-the-art facilities, gaining a glimpse of the opportunities that higher education in engineering can offer.

Explore Engineering 2024 is part of The Smallpeice Trust’s mission to inspire young people to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). By offering immersive experiences, the Trust aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world engineering applications.

Dr James Scobie, Reader and Director of Recruitment, Access and Admissions for Mechanical Engineering said: “The Faculty of Engineering & Design at the University of Bath is delighted to host Explore Engineering 2024 for the second consecutive year in partnership with The Smallpeice Trust. This three-day residential course will provide insights into the current challenges faced by Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and Civil engineers and how they can help overcome them. This is a great opportunity to understand the issues facing the world and work to develop the required skills to help find sustainable solutions to tackle these. Finally, it’s a great opportunity to meet other like-minded students with similar interests at a leading institution such as the University of Bath”.

Explore Engineering 2024 is more than just an educational programme; it’s an adventure that could ignite a passion for engineering and set students on a path to a rewarding career.

The Smallpeice Trust is paving the way for the next generation of engineers, working towards a more diverse workforce across STEM-related industries.
