Inspiring the Next Generation of Girls into Engineering

Now in its 10th year, The Smallpeice Trust is again set to host its renowned Girls into Engineering course at Loughborough University from the 13th to the 15th of August 2024. This three-day residential course will provide a unique opportunity for 100 young girls to meet, make friends and delve into the exciting world of STEM.

Empowering Young Female Minds

Girls into Engineering is designed specifically for girls aged 12 to 14 years, aiming to ignite their passion for engineering and encourage them to consider future careers in this vital field. With hands-on workshops, interactive sessions, and inspirational talks from leading engineers, the course promises an enriching experience that goes beyond traditional classroom learning.

Supporting Girls in STEM

The course is part of The Smallpeice Trust's broader mission to inspire and support young people in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). By focusing specifically on girls, the Trust aims to address the underrepresentation of women in engineering and encourage more female students to pursue STEM subjects at higher education levels.

Samantha, a past participant, shared her experience: “Attending the Girls into Engineering course was a turning point for me. It opened my eyes to the possibilities in engineering and gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams. The support and encouragement from The Smallpeice Trust STEM Engagements Specialist was incredible.”

Industry Collaboration

The success of the Girls into Engineering course is made possible through partnerships with leading engineering firms and educational institutions. These collaborations provide participants with access to cutting-edge technology and insights into the latest industry trends. This year saw GE HealthCare and Leonardo, partner with the Trust in delivering a powerful three-day residential experience for these future female leaders.

Their involvement ensures that the course content is both current and relevant, reflecting the skills and knowledge required in today’s engineering landscape.

Girls into Engineering represents a significant step towards a more inclusive and diverse engineering workforce. By providing young females with the opportunity to explore engineering in a supportive and inspiring environment, The Smallpeice Trust is helping to pave the way for the next generation of leading female engineers.

Helen Cuthill, Chief Executive of The Smallpeice Trust, emphasised the importance of such initiatives: "We are thrilled to partner with GE HealthCare and Leonardo for another year to offer this transformative experience for young women interested in engineering", said Helen Cuthill, CEO of the Smallpeice Trust. "This course aims to develop technical skills and provide invaluable exposure to real-world engineering challenges".
