On his family’s farm, Jonathan always loved working with tools and materials, but he turned to teaching as a career instead of farming.
One of his treasured experiences was as school lead in an Arkwright Scholarship programme.
“It was tough, challenging, and frustrating but profoundly rewarding both for students and teachers,” he said.
After retiring as Head of his school’s Design and Technology Department, he was invited by Smallpeice to deliver STEM Days in schools. He thoroughly enjoys nurturing young people.
“Having taught GCSE electronics for several years I have also been able to offer my services working with Smallpeice developing new electronic STEM Day challenges,” he added.
An avid collector of old tools and equipment - he even has a couple of vintage tractors.
“My advice to young people is - when selecting subjects for study keep as many doors as possible and opportunities open to you, follow your passion and don't be afraid of changing direction.”
