“I was always keen to point out where the subject could take you, by highlighting links to developments in physics and engineering with videos, press reports, as well as updates about their activities from former students. Bringing these into lessons made giving careers advice easy,” he said.
This is why he found getting involved in Smallpeice events seemed logical. He began assisting residentials with Smallpeice around 2006 - as result of his daughter being involved when studying Ship Science at Southampton. He then began presenting STEM with us days 10 years later.
“Apart from seeing the enthusiasm of the students, a massive highlight is when a ‘disengaged’ student then really gets involved in a project,” added Nigel.
His outside interests include industrial history, dinghy racing and building models of Royal Navy ships.
